Update on the jam exchange. I sent out a package with four jars of goodies and a magnet (cause after all what fun is it to send something across the country without being able to send them a somewhat tacky tourist momento?). Chocolate blueberry, blackberry dragonfruit, ginger honey lemon marmalade and strawberry meyer lemon marmalade. I think. Its a bit vague the week after and I didn’t think to take a picture before I packed the box.

My post office didn’t have any flate rate boxes small enough, so I grabbed a small priority box instead. Dropped it off on the way into work and even after they told me how much of a difference in price I still sent it. Mailing date was the 10th and I sent mine three days later. Sharing a vehicle and living in a crappy post office area does not go together. But it got there and hopefully in one piece.

A couple days later I got my package, suspended from my mailbox flag (which was up) in a Market Basket bag. It was a tad squished, and there was a hole in the side, but the air pillows managed to protect the jars well enough. I received a fig jam and a peach jam. The husband wasn’t impressed. But then again his idea of the perfect Jelly is Smuckers squeezable fruit spread. I am excited to try something I haven’t managed on my own (brown fig jam) and something thats not worked for me so far (peach jam). Its like tangible proof its possible.

I think I may have fallen short on the “connect” part, but I did feel the pressure to expand my boundaries to make something spectacular. After all it wasn’t until closer to the deadline that we found out who we were partnered with. Coupled with the short growing season I had to make plans if I wanted to make certain things. It lead me to buying the dragonfruit. And trying marmalades in a couple varieties.

I picked up some President’s Goat Cheese (the kind in the funky pyramid tub) to go with the Kashi Pita Chips I got in the mail. If I get the time tomorrow I will take a picture before I devour my snack.
